Dear Newton South Families,
In anticipation of a possible snowstorm tomorrow, (Tuesday, March 19), the Department of Education has decided to postpone the ELA MCAS Writing session scheduled for tomorrow to next Monday, March 25th. This has the following implications on our school schedule:
1. Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 19th will be a regular school day. All students should report to all classes unless there is a weather-related delay or closing.
2. Thursday and Friday will remain ELA MCAS test days. Students will take the reading comprehension test on those days. (As originally scheduled, 9th graders will come in at 11:00 on Thursday and 12th graders will come in at 10:00 on Friday.) On Thursday morning, all 10th graders should report to the cafeteria upon arriving to school for the MCAS kickoff breakfast which will take place from 7:20 – 7:45. Students should then report to their testing rooms.
3. On Monday, March 25th, 11th grade students should not arrive at school until 11:00 (Freshmen and Seniors will have a full school day). The blocks will meet in the following order (we are changing the order of classes to help balance missed classes for 10th graders):
7:40 – 8:40 C1
8:45 – 9:45 E1
9:50 -10:55 F1
11:00 – 12:35 D1
12:40 – 1:35 A1
1:40 – 2:35 B1
2:40 – 3:20 J1
We recognize that a number of students and staff may be absent on March 25th due to the upcoming Passover holiday. (Please understand that the Department of Education selects the date for the MCAS tests, and that we are required to give the test on the date selected.) The make-up date for the ELA Composition test is Thursday, March 28th. Please notify your child’s house office if s/he is planning to be absent.
