I am writing to request your support for our Global Education Leadership Fund (GELF), a scholarship program that supports students participating in Newton South overseas educational travel opportunities.
When I was a junior in high school, I become involved with an exchange program that included hosting a student from Germany, followed by my spending three weeks in Germany with my host family. Aside from providing a new perspective on the United States and my role as a global citizen, it also gave me the courage to leave Oregon and attend college in Chicago. I have no doubt that there is a causational relationship between my experience as a high school student in Germany and my current role as principal of Newton South.
For years now, Newton South and Newton North have offered extraordinary opportunities for students to extend their learning in international settings. Those who return from abroad – like me – speak often about the pivotal role these experiences have played in their personal and academic lives.
Over the past several years, folks from South and North have worked hard to ensure that these opportunities are available to all of our students. Please help us continue to convince our students that no one should tune out when international learning opportunities are announced! Please join us to offer students in need the necessary boost for an incredible learning experience.
On Saturday, April 6, the GELF community is hosting our annual fund-raiser, “An Evening of International Cuisine, Fine Wines, and Dancing” at Post 440. The evening features an amazing home-cooked meal, paired fine wines, dancing (with a great live band), and a live auction. And yours truly will serve the guests (with the superintendent and other principals). Please consider joining us, or making a donation by clicking here. (http://gelf2013.eventbrite.com/)
Thank you for your support!
