Wrestling Update

Division I States were on Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22 at Lawrence High School. Zach Nislick and Will Kramer qualified while Gabe Betancourt and Liam Brandel were alternates.  Gabe, however did make it into wrestle.

According to Wrestling Coach, Alan Rotatori, “I am so proud of the way Gabe Betancourt, Zach Nislick and Will Kramer represented the Newton South wrestling team at the State Tournament.  Some of the best wrestlers in the state were in attendance and our boys went head to head with them. Combined, the three went 2-6 but more impressive was the 1st takedown stat. In the eight matches we had four 1st takedowns. Considering the level of competition, this was a great way to send a message to our opponents. This was a valuable experience for Gabe and Zach who will be returning next year. I want to congratulate Will for dealing with “adversity” for almost his entire career. I always felt that when the moment was right, Will did exactly what he needed to do to be successful. It is not easy jumping from 138lb weight class to 170lb in one calendar year as well.  I congratulate all of our wrestlers for a great season.”
