Introducing our new Wellness Department Chair and Athletic Director

First, I want to acknowledge Scott Perrin and thank him for his many years working with our Wellness and Athletic Departments.  Fortunately, Scott’s decision to return to the classroom will keep him right here at Newton South High School.

After an extensive interview and selection process, I am very pleased to announce that Ms. Patricia Gonzalez has accepted our offer to become our new Wellness Department Chair and Athletic Director!

Patty has served as the athletic director for Austin Prep since 2008.  Prior to that, Patty served as the director of athletics and taught physical education for Ursuline Academy.  Born in Argentina, she holds an undergraduate degree in physical education from the Instituto Nacional de Educaccion Fisica in addition to a Masters in school administration from Cambridge College.

I want to thank Scott Perrin, who has been extremely helpful throughout this process, and who has offered to mentor Patty as she learns Newton South.

I also want to thank our interview committee, who devoted many hours to help us with this process:

Gerard Gagnon and Charlie Myette, co-chairs

Amy Aransky, Wellness Teacher
Amy Richard, Teacher, former coach
Barbara Castoldi, Department Secretary

And finally a big thank you to the many students, parents, coaches, and teachers who took the time to meet our finalists and provide feedback.  This was a tough decision to make, as all three of our finalists had definitive areas of strengths.  I am very confident that Patty is the candidate that best matches both our needs and values, and I know that you will join me in welcoming her to Newton South.
