First Lion’s Pride Day a Great Success

Last Friday, 400 of our student athletes who are participating in the fall season gathered together for an afternoon of sportsmanship and community service.  For the first hour, each of our teams spearheaded a service project:

  • Football:  Cleaned up the turf fields and helped the field hockey team set their nets
  • Boy’s Soccer:  Cleaned up Weeks field and playground, where many of our athletes played youth soccer …and our teams use to this day
  • Field Hockey:  Cleaned their new storage space and put nets on their new goals
  • Golf:  Went to Commonwealth Golf Club and assisted with grounds maintenance
  • Girl’s Soccer:  Planted flowers around the flag pole and prepared their playing area
  • Cross-Country:  Went to the Brown/Oak Hill Fields and took care of some clean up and spruced up the stands in Winkler Stadium
  • Volleyball:  Organized and cleaned the equipment in the Field House

After the teams finished their work, the students and coaches came together in the Stadium and participated in inter-squad games and watched the coaches relay.  A big thanks to coaches Anderson, McCarthy, Flemming , McChesney, and PJ for helping to transport the teams around town.  Another shout out to Coaches Elwell and Rotatori, who organized the games.  The afternoon ended with all of the athletes having lunch together in the Field House.  “It was great to see our South Athletics program come together as one.  With this success, I am looking forward to repeating Lion’s Pride Day for the Winter and Spring seasons,” said Patty Gonzalez, South Athletic Director.
