According to Bob Jampol, Girls Varsity Tennis Coach, “Two 9th Grade girls have made a huge impact on our varsity squad this year. Kayla Schwartz, who is our number-one singles player, has taken on the burden of facing top USTA players almost every match, an unenviable task. Yet Kayla has improved week by week. In the process, she has helped us win key victories, most notably against Westford Academy, when she upset veteran Claire Yu in straight sets. Samantha Smith, another freshman, is 14-5 so far, and in the recent individual tournament at South she gained three victories and advanced to the final round before falling to #2 seed Izzy Essi of Wayland. Along the way, she defeated #7 seed Nina Tchirkova of Winchester. Sam and Kayla, alongside sophomore Sarah King, form the nucleus of our youth movement in Girls Tennis.”
