Sam Heesch is one of the captains (along with Madison Holland) of our Varsity Field Hockey team. According to varsity coach Stephanie Pavao, “Sam is a constant leader for her teammates. She works diligently both on and off the field to make herself and the team better. As a player, Sam has been working hard to improve her skills and adjust to her new role on the team as a defensive player. She willingly changed positions this year and has worked conscientiously to make sure that she learns all of the ins and outs of her new position. Off the field, Sam has been tireless in promoting team building and community service. Sam has helped lead the team in various outings including apple picking at Honey Pot in Stow. She has also led the way in bringing our team together with Newton North’s so that the two teams could get involved in the Play for a Cure charity. Thanks to Sam’s efforts, South will be playing its closing game (October 31 at 10:00 a.m. against North) while raising money to donate to fight all forms of cancer. Sam models what it means to be a teammate and what it means to play with purpose.”
