Athlete of the Week — Senior, Anthony DeNitto, Football

The 2015 Football team has had historical success on the gridiron. The football team’s regular season record was 6-1, hosted the first-ever home playoff game on Saturday October 31, and won the program’s first-ever playoff game. According to Head Coach Ted Dalicandro, “Football is the ultimate team sport, but one cannot recognize the football team’s success without acknowledging the play of Senior Anthony DeNitto. Anthony, who started playing football only in his freshmen year, has enjoyed tremendous success this football season, leading the state in receiving touchdowns (20). Anthony is not just a great football player; he is a fantastic leader on and off the field. Anthony’s attention to detail as a receiver, his work ethic during the season and in the off-season is unmatched. He is one of the top football players in Massachusetts and is being heavily recruited by a number of Ivy league schools. Anthony is the perfect example of what a student-athlete should be. His commitment to athletics is matched only by his commitment to his academics. It has been a pleasure to coach such a hard working, talented individual such as Anthony; he has redefined what it means to be a football player at Newton South.”
