Girls’ Hockey Teams Joins Forces with North’s Hockey Team to Raise funds for Denna Laing

According to NSHS parent Molly Kellogg, who has coordinated the fundraiser, “As I am sure every parent of a hockey player knows, Denna Laing suffered a severe spinal cord injury during the NWHL’s Winter Classic game on December 31, a date that Denna still refers to as the best day in her life. To celebrate her incredible spirit and determination, we are conducting a joint fundraiser with the Girls’ Newton North HS Varsity team around the game on February 3 at Dexter at 7:15PM. If you have any doubt that this is a worthy cause, check out the tribute at last night’s Bruins game, which featured a video of Denna from her bed at Spaulding Rehab: www.youtube.com/watch?v=26aN-dDeu84

The goal of the fundraiser, other than the obvious one of supporting this singular athlete as she recovers, is to engage the girls in the process as much as possible. We are doing this with the full support of both coaching staffs, who have already secured the “good” rink for us at Dexter for the event.”

So….. we are raffling off 4 Premium seats to the Bruins v. Penguins game on February 25. (A huge shout-out to Meredith Verdone, a NNHS parent who aced the tickets for us in about 24 hours.)  $10 per raffle ticket or 3 for $25, with all proceeds going to the Denna Laing Fund (www.dennalaing.org). Hockey players at both schools are selling tickets, or you can email coach Meg Lloyd at lloyd55@gmail.com.
