Physical exams: All students must have a current health physical on file in the nurse’s office. Please note that the MIAA has recently modified regulations of physical exam (PE) requirements for student-athletes. The MIAA maintains compliance with the Department of Health, which has stated that physical exams must cover an entire sports season. To comply with DPH regulations, schools have the option to choose to adopt a policy that requires physical examinations within 12 or 13 months of the student’s last physical. Newton South will honor the 13-month period. Once a student’s physical has expired, the student will no longer be eligible to participate. To regain eligibility a new physical form must be on file at the nurse’s office.
ImPact testing: The ImPact baseline test will be administered after school on November 13, 14, and 15. Please make an appointment at the trainer’s office if you’re a first-season athlete at South or if you’re a junior playing for first time this year. Our trainer can be reached at email@example.com.

Financial Assistance Program: Please review the instructions prepared by the Newton Public Schools to request an athletics waiver. Please note that financial assistance applications are reviewed by the Business Office. Applications must be mailed to Newton Public Schools, Business Office, 100 Walnut Street, Newtonville, MA 02460.
The Waiver Process: As in prior years, it is the intention of the Newton Public Schools that no student should be excluded from fee-based activities due to inability to pay. Families may apply for a fee waiver based on financial hardship so that no students are denied participation in school-sponsored activities and bus transportation. Waivers are based on income and family size as well as special circumstances such as unforeseen medical problems, change in family status, change in employment status, other emergencies, or temporary hardships. All waiver applications are confidential. Financial waivers do not apply to high school parking. Newton families may access detailed fee information including financial waiver instruction (including waiver application) and online payment options on the district’s website by visiting the following link: http://www3.newton.k12.ma.us/feebasedprograms.
