Planning is well underway for SouthFest, Newton South’s after-prom event, organized and run by parent volunteers. Our goal is to provide a safe and fun post-prom experience for seniors with or without dates. SouthFest takes place at the school directly after the prom which is on Tuesday, June 5. We have lots of great activities including a casino, inflatables, tattoo artists and psychics, a green screen photography booth, and a mini race track. We also have tons of food, everything from pizza and burritos to a chocolate fountain and mounds of candy.
In addition to being organized and run by parent volunteers, SouthFest is entirely funded by donations from the South community. We need a lot of support to put on a party for over 400 kids. The bulk of our costs is for the entertainment we provide, and those costs have been going up every year. In addition, we have a number of other expenses including decorations, a police and fire detail, and the custodial staff who help with clean up during and after the event. We rely on donations across all grades, so please consider making a donation even if your son or daughter is not a senior. It’s a great way to pay it forward for the time when your child reaches this milestone year. To make a donation to SouthFest, please visit the SouthFest donation page.
Next week, we will be sending out the sign up with volunteer opportunities. We need the most help on the day of SouthFest, setting up, chaperoning the event, working in the casino, and cleaning up. Senior parents are welcome to help with set up and clean up, but we ask that they do not volunteer during the event itself. That means we depend on parents from other classes to help out during the event which takes place between 11:30PM and 3:00AM. It is a late night but it is a lot of fun for both the seniors and the parents who help out that night.
Thank you for your support in helping to make SouthFest happen for our seniors!
