Applications Now Open for NSHS Summer Service Trip to Puerto Rico

Announcing NSHS’s Puerto Rico Summer Service Trip!

Applications are now open for NSHS’s inaugural summer service trip to Puerto Rico! Open to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, this one-week program will tentatively run from June 25-July 2, 2018 (dates to be finalized based on flight availability) and will focus on a variety of service projects in and around San Juan, Puerto Rico, including helping to rebuild homes, assisting with ecological reforestation projects, packing and distributing food from food banks, and spending time with seniors who don’t live with their families. There will also be opportunities to visit cultural sites and museums in and near San Juan. The program will feature some Spanish lessons, but no prior Spanish language experience is required!

An informational session for students will be held on Monday, May 14 during J-block in Goodwin Commons. Applications to the program are due on Friday, May 18. You can read more about the program and download the application here. The application contains an informational cover letter, and hard copy applications are available in the Goodwin House Office.

Financial aid is available for this program and for every international travel program at Newton South. A financial aid supplement is included with the regular program application. Please contact Samantha Mandel for questions about the trip or if you would like individual advice as to whether you might qualify for an award.
