Another opportunity to help the Newton Food Pantry is by participating in the 5th annual Newton Turkey Trot on Saturday, November 17. This year’s goal is to raise $10,000. Last year we donated many food items that runners and community members brought to the race. We were also able to bring any surplus race snacks (fresh fruit, bagels, granola bars, etc.) to the Union Church in Waban, which always hosts a Thanksgiving meal on the Sunday before the holiday for those who won’t be able to have a Thanksgiving dinner. Last year, after the Union Church took what they needed from the surplus race snacks, one of their parish members took the rest down to the Pine Street Inn, a homeless shelter in Boston—all within a couple of hours of the race finish. You can register for this year’s event at https://www.newtonturkeytrot.org. The Newton Turkey Trot is now an officially registered non-profit. The race needs volunteers; please reach out to help!
