Coach Rotatori’s Report on Division I Central Sectionals

“Wow, what an event! From the outstanding concessions to the outstanding performance of all our kids, this was a day to remember. Our preparation during the season allowed us to meet the challenges and opportunities that presented themselves on Saturday (February 9). I know this is true because we had three wrestlers defeat opponents that defeated them earlier in the season. As a team we placed 8th, and we had 6 students who represented Newton South in the medal ceremony: Gill Avieli, 6th; Zach Wagner, 6th; Mark Nazzaro, 4th; Andrew Badaoui, 5th; Adam Bernhardt, 3rd; and Xavier Phillips, 4th. Mark, Adam, and Xavier qualified for the Division I State Tournament next weekend, and Andrew is an alternate. Congratulations to the four of you for beng the top-20 Division I wrestlers in the state! Adam was the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament for his great wrestling and his ability to overcome adversity. The #1 and #2 seed in the consolation quarterfinals with the loser not going to States! Adam would have to defeat his opponent, who has given him two out of the four losses that he had this year. Needless to say, Adam rose to the challenge and wrestled his best match of the season when it counted the most. Way to go Adam! With his three wins on Saturday he has reached the 30-win mark now, with 32 wins on the season.”
