Why does the Newton South PTSO have a targeted fundraising campaign, Success@South?
We recognize the need for supplemental funds in order to meet the ever-changing requirements of a modern high school. At Newton North, targeted campaigns have raised over $150K in the past 8 years for technology, an Innovation Lab and improvements to their Library. Over a three year period, the South parent community successfully raised $40,000 to significantly improve the Newton South Library and outfit the new STEAM Lab. In 2016, we raised close to $15,000 to refurbish the College and Career Center. Last year, we raised funds to purchase individual study carrells and new seating in the library, further improving the learning and social environment in this much used space. We continue to raise funds through the Success@South campaign in order to make improvements which have a direct positive impact upon our students and our school.
How was the Fine and Performing Arts program selected for this year’s campaign?
Our Principal, Joel Stembridge, his leadership team, and the PTSO have all collaborated on this decision.
How will NSHS students benefit from this year’s campaign?
Over 1500 students participate in the myriad offerings of the Fine and Performing Arts program each year. This includes activities in all areas of the fine and performing arts, from photography to acting to ukulele classes. However, the student population at South has grown substantially in the last several years. In order to give more access to arts programming and to continue to offer an excellent arts education, the department needs more equipment and materials, and more up to date equipment in some cases.
What if Success@South fundraising exceeds $20K this year?
All funds raised through the campaign are earmarked for the Fine and Performing Arts Department. Our fundraising goals is in fact modest in the context of our large student body and the needs of the department. If we raise additional funds through the campaign, we will be able to provide additional wish list items.
