Girls gymnastics is having a great post-season! Five athletes have qualified for and competed in Individual States on February 15. Sophomore Kalena Wang finished 3rd in the All-Around and freshman Laura Hernandez finished 6th on the Floor and both have been invited to compete in the New England Individual competition on March 15. This is the first time in school history that any individual gymnast has advanced beyond States. Also at this meet, the Massachusetts High School Senior National Team was announced and Senior Kaela Meyer was officially invited to compete as a member of the team in May in Ft. Myers Beach, FL.. This is the first time South has had an athlete qualify for this team. Also, on February 22 the girls gymnastics team won a North Sectional trophy (the first in program history) by finishing in second place. Some highlights: Junior Camila Hernandez set a school record in the All-Around at 37.25 and sophomore Kalena Wang won the Beam with a personal record of 9.6. Camila also came in 4th in the All-Around, with Kalena right behind at 37.15. The gymnastics post-season continues with the State team competition on Saturday March 1 with the South team seeded 3rd behind Barnstable and Andover. The meet is at Shrewsbury High School at 4pm and the top 2 teams from States will continue to the New England team competition on March 15.
