Newton Serves Day Big Success – Thank You Volunteers!

Many thanks to NSHS parent Shannon Smith, her husband, Chris Targett, and student chairs Rachel Cohen and Madison Targett for the fabulous work they did organizing and managing 100 student, parent, and citywide volunteers who came last Sunday to weed, mulch and clean up the outside of our school. Thanks also to parents Diane Roberts, Karen Kaplan and Stephie Fleck. The two biggest groups of volunteers were the Mt. Ida football team, who worked with us for the second year, and our own hardworking Newton South baseball teams (varsity, JV, and freshman) with coach Ron Jordan. Thanks also to the Global Community classrooms and the Sustainable Agriculture Project, which had many students volunteer, as well as teachers Michael Kozuch, Jon Orren, and Andrew Thompson. Plus, another 40+ students came on their own. As the weather gets nicer over the coming weeks, we hope you enjoy the newly cleaned up courtyard, main entrance area, the school garden, wetlands kiosk and path. Please save the date for our official opening of the “Green Trail,” on Wednesday, May 28 at 3pm.
