The Boys Volleyball team is rolling through its 2014 with a sense of purpose! They are 16-0 with four matches left to play and haven’t dropped a single set (48-0). With only two returning starters from last year’s squad, several players have filled the void. Phil Levine-Caleb stepped up in a middle hitter role and provides a great source of energy for the team. Brendan Duggan continues to develop as one of the top middle blockers in the state while providing leadership for the entire program. In the outside hitter positions, Jonathan Lee (101 kills) and Joe Esbenshade (99 kills), provide the team with an amazing one-two punch. The cornerstone of the defense is the libero, Zach Kaufman (132 digs). On the right side of the court, Mike Horenstein and Tomer Keren provide a balanced attack both at the net and serving line. The unsung hero for the season is Jared Chin (990 career assists) – his focus and fire make him one of the best setters in the state.
Tonight, Friday, May 9 at 5PM, come see number 1 Newton South face number 6 Acton-Boxborough. Please support Jared Chin as he reaches his 1000th career assist. With a win, South will be DCL champions for the 2014 season. With the regular season coming to an end please stay tuned for tourney seeds and dates.
