Sophomore Calene Lazare was named “Athlete of the Meet” in the running events at the MSTCA Frosh/Soph championship meet. The meet, which included all of the schools in the large-school division in Eastern MA and had entries from over 50 teams, was a huge honor for Calene. On Saturday she won the 100 dash in a stellar time of 12.72. She won that event last year as well. Calene also anchored our 4 x 100 relay to 1st place in the meet in 52.19 and placed 7th in the long jump.
In our four DCL meets, Calene has remained undefeated in the 100 and has anchored our 4 x 100, which is also undefeated. She has also qualified for states in those events as well as the long jump with a best of 16’3″. Against Cambridge Rindge and Latin, she won the 100, had her best mark in the long jump, and tried a new event, running our lead leg on the 4 x 400, which set a season best and won the event. Calene has qualified for the state meet in 5 events: The 100, 200, Long Jump, 4 x 100, and now the 4 x 400. Calene ranks as the 2nd fastest sprinter in the DCL in both the 100 and 200, and our 4 x 100 has the fastest time in the DCL. With her as lead, our 4 x 400 ran the 2nd fastest time in the DCL. That is a high quality week for any athlete, let alone a sophomore. Congratulations, Calene!
