On Wednesday, May 4 at 6:00PM in the NSHS Auditorium, the Newton South Guidance department is co-sponsoring “Drugs and The Developing Teen Brain: What Parents and Teens Need to Know.” This presentation will be given by Susan Swick, MD, MPH, Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Nicole Danforth, MD, Director of Outpatient Programs, both of Newton Wellesley Hospital.
Drs. Swick and Danforth will be speaking about what is known about the developing brain in adolescents and the particular risks of substance use during these years. They will also be talking about how to separate fact from fiction around marijuana, opiates, and other drugs. Finally, they’ll talk about how challenging this topic can be to speak honestly (and accurately) about, both for teens and for their parents. They will also share some strategies to keep the lines of communication open on this topic that is so critical to the safety, health, and well-being of our youth. Click here for the flyer.
