Why So Early? Rethinking the High School Start Time: 3rd Community Forum on April 6th

Middle and Elementary School Parents and Guardians – Join the Conversation!

Join the Brown and Oak Hill PTOs and the Newton South School Council to explore the research on teen sleep and to understand why the Newton School Committee is studying a later start time for all Newton high schools.

We hope to continue the community conversation around the impact of inadequate sleep on our teens and welcome middle and elementary parents to the discussion. If changes happen, our younger students can benefit as they move through their teen years.

The featured speaker will be Dr. Christopher Landrigan, Director of the Sleep and Patient Safety Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Research Director of Inpatient Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Landrigan is also a Brown and South parent; he was the featured speaker at January’s High School Start Time Forum at Newton North. We will also hear the perspectives of a high school teacher and student and receive an update from the School Committee’s High School Start Time Working Group.

The Forum will introduce the topic to middle and elementary parents and guardians, however all are welcome. If you have a high school student and missed the prior two forums at North and South, this is a good opportunity to catch up on the research.

Wednesday, April 6th @ 7:00PM
