Donation Needed Faculty Luncheon on Wed, June 23

STAFF LUNCHEON WEDNESDAY, 6/23

The last day of the school year for staff and faculty is Wednesday, 6/23. Please help us show our support of the staff at Newton South by donating to the luncheon. We will be serving a great selection of sandwiches, and are asking families to contribute additional items to round out the menu.

Coffee donations would be greatly appreciated!   In keeping with COVID protocols, we request that all items be commercially purchased and individually wrapped.

Items may be dropped off in the cafeteria any time from 7.45 am-11 am on June 23rd.  Please drop the coffee off by 7.45 am, so the staff members can enjoy a cup of coffee to start their day.  IF YOU’RE UNABLE TO PICK THE COFFEE UP YOURSELF, YOU MAY USE DOORDASH OR ANOTHER SIMILAR DELIVERY SERVICE.  We’re happy to accept delivered donations!

Please use the link below to sign-up to contribute to this event.

Final Days of School–Monday, 6/21 and Tuesday, 6/22:

Monday, 6/21: The dismissal time and bus pickup for 6/21 for those students that need to come to South for makeup work/support from teachers has been confirmed as 11:30am. Here is more information on the purpose and schedule of the day:

  • The purpose of this day is for students who need to submit makeup work and/or meet with teachers to receive additional support to finish the year in a positive way.
  • If a student has multiple teachers that they need to check in with, they should follow the “priority hours” schedule below to know when in that time period to meet with each teacher. Student meetings with teachers can happen either in-person (teachers who are in-person will let students know what room to report to) or on the teacher’s zoom link.
  • If a student only has one subject area to make up work in or one teacher to check in with, the student and teacher can arrange a time to meet outside of the “priority hours”, i.e. anytime from 9:15am to 11:30am.

Here is the schedule for 6/21 (also linked here)

9:15am – 10:00am     Math and History priority hours

10:00am – 10:45am    Science and English priority hours

10:45am – 11:30am    World Language, Fine & Performing Arts, Family & Consumer Science, Business, Wellness priority hours

Tuesday, 6/22:  Last Day!

    • As is tradition at South, the final day on 6/22 will have all A – G blocks meet for shorter periods of time for students to have one last opportunity to see/interact with their teachers and peers (see Block Schedule for more details)

Dismissal will be at 12:45pm this day and Grab and Go lunch will be available for interested students as they leave the building.

Q4 & Final Grades

Q4 and Final grades will be posted to Aspen by 5:00pm on Wednesday, 6/23. A message to students and families will be sent when they are posted.

2021-22 Bus Registration Now Open

Dear NPS Families,

As this school year draws to a close, we are already planning for the 2021-22 school year. We have not yet received specific health and safety guidance from the state, but we expect transportation to be much like this spring. More details will be shared at the end of the summer.

The online bus registration portal is now OPEN. It will be open until Saturday, July 31st. You MUST register by July 31st to secure your student’s seat on the bus. Similar to this year, students will receive bus seat assignments and will be required to have a bus pass in order to ride the bus.

Below we have shared key details about the bus registration process. We look forward to safely transporting your student(s) next year.

Process

  • Registration for a bus pass will be online ONLY (just like this past year.)
  • NPS uses MySchoolBucks as its online registration portal.
  • You can access registration directly via MySchoolBucks at: www.myschoolbucks.com. You will be asked to log into your account or create a new account.
  • You will find additional registration information here: www.newton.k12.ma.us/transportation
  • Paper packets WILL NOT be mailed in the summer.

Timeline

  • June 16th – July 31st – bus registration portal is open
  • August 1st – registration portal will close to review bus registrations and make seat assignments.
  • August 30th – Bus passes are available to print via the Aspen portal.

Fees

  • To determine your bus fee, please visit this webpage: https://www.newton.k12.ma.us/Page/3318
  • You will be able to pay the bus fee in installments over the course of the year using e-check, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.
  • You may apply for financial assistance via this Google Form
  • Please note that the School Committee voted to remove all credit card transaction fees for families.

Bus Pass Access

  • In late August, you will access your bus pass electronically through Aspen so that it can be printed at home or stored on a smartphone (for secondary students.)
  • Bus passes will include a seat assignment for morning and a seat assignment for afternoon. Please note that these seat assignments may be different for the morning and the afternoon.
  • All students must have a bus pass and seat assignment to ride the bus.
