Items Needed for NSHS Fine/Performing Arts Department

The Newton South Fine & Performing Arts department is looking for a little help from our friends. Our classes continue to be a home away from home for many students and we find ourselves in need of two very specific items: an upright bass and DSLR cameras.

If you, or someone you know, has any of these items available, we can pick them up and provide you with a tax donation letter.  Please email Megan Leary Crist at cristm@newton.k12.ma.us if you are able to help out.  Thank you!

Newton South Stage Presents Lia’s Love Story Mar 12 & 13 at 7:30PM

Lia has a bit of a rom-com addiction. She watches so many, she starts to imagine that her life is like one. Lia can’t wait for her romantic kiss in the rain with the handsome leading man…or maybe it’s a leading woman?  Written and directed by Valerie Goldstein ’21.

Last Night SouthStage Live Stream “Once Upon a Time on Zoom”, Nov. 29 at 7:30PM

Tickets go on sale for the pre-recorded stream of Once Upon a Time on Zoom on Friday, Nov. 20. Prices are $10 for individuals/$25 for families. The stream will be active on YouTube on Nov. 29 at 7:30PM each night. A link to the show will be included with your ticket receipt. There will be a different link each night, so if you want to see this clever night of short plays again, you should buy tickets for the following nights.

Please consider making a donation in South Stage. All donations are tax-deductible, and your generosity will be acknowledged with a listing in every South Stage Playbill for one calendar year. South Stage does not receive a production budget from the school other than modest stipends for adult directors. Although ticket sales typically cover production costs, we rely heavily on the funds raised through Playbill ads and donations to maintain and upgrade costumes, construction, lighting, and sound equipment.

FroshPlay Starts Mon, Sept 21 @4-6PM

Welcome, Freshmen!
Frosh Play starts Sept 21, Monday-Friday, 4-6 PM
Connection Building, Drama Games, Scene Readings

Zoom link and password here.
You must be signed in with your Newton Google account to see it.

Come when you can; stay as long as you can!

FAQs here!

The primary goal of the Frosh Play is to introduce freshmen to high school theatre and help them make connections with each other and with the school community.  We take everyone who shows up during that first week of virtual rehearsals.  Because we don’t know the numbers or the genders of our actors before that first week, we find a number of potential 10-minute plays, and then cast at the end of the first week.
