The PTSO relies on annual donations from each Newton South family. Every parent, teacher and student enrolled in the current school year is automatically a member of the Newton South PTSO. Our annual fundraiser (Dues Campaign of $66,000) is used to support our school community and enrich the experiences of our students at South.
For this unprecedented 2020-21 school year, we are reducing our Dues Campaign to $44,000. And a surplus of $13,500 will be used for our 2020-21 $57,500 budget.
Please click here to donate and support the Newton South PTSO programs and events. The recommended annual donation for 2020-21 is $50 per family. We aim for 100% participation – no matter what the amount. We have reduced some expenses due to MA social distancing guidelines. We appreciate any amount that our members can contribute toward our annual Dues Campaign so we can provide these programs and support to our students and teachers at South as they find ways to teach, connect and learn this year:
- $30,000 to support enrichment programs & supplies in all NSHS departments;
- $9,000 for staff and student support and appreciation;
- $10,000 for SouthFest – a senior celebration
- $4,500 for our School Directory, video conference, website, and communications;
- $4,000 for administrative, merchant fees and legal expenses.
Thank you for supporting the Newton South PTSO. Together, we can ensure our students get the best experience at South with distant learning and in-person experiences. Thank you for supporting the PTSO.

Newton Schools Foundation (NSF). The NSF‘s mission is to enhance and broaden community support for public education and to provide private funding for enhancement, innovation, and challenging programs across a student’s K – 12 experiences in the Newton Public Schools. NSF is focused on supporting 21st century classroom skills, technology, and tools. Donations are used equitably across all Newton schools.
NSF Grants: The NSF funds grants in the Newton Public Schools that support professional development for educators, new approaches in the classroom, and programs that address both racial and income inequities and enable all students to achieve their full potential.
Programs that have benefited South and beyond. The DaVinci Program, which enables students to build skills through student-driven learning; AP US History Summer Academy, which engages rising juniors of color with structured academic support to help them succeed in AP US History; Beyond The Classroom, a professional development conference that helps international trip leaders craft meaningful and engaging international learning experiences for students; and district-wide programs like Positivity Training, Teachers as Scholars, and Families Organizing for Racial Justice.
NSF has more recently funded programs that address our unique times with the purchase last spring of Chromebooks for distribution district-wide for those in need of a device for remote learning, and this past summer’s National Educator Anti-Racist Conference, a program initiated and implemented by Joana Chacon, a Newton South English teacher.
