Fall 2020 NSHS Girls Volleyball Update

Incoming and returning NSHS Girls Volleyball Players,

We hope this letter finds your families doing well in these unprecedented times. As summer is beginning and restrictions are lessening, we are looking forward to returning to fall sports in a new and safe manner for COVID-19. Joining a fall sports team is a fantastic opportunity to become a part of the Newton South community and have a great start to the new year. Enclosed is information about the Girls Volleyball program at Newton South, so please read if you have a daughter who is interested in fall sport opportunities.

Please complete this form to opt-in on future communication about NSHS Volleyball program (girls and boys),  if your child is interested in playing volleyball (Girls season Fall 2020, Boys season Spring 2021). This is not a commitment to play, but the way to continue to receive information about the upcoming NSHS volleyball program/season: please sign up with this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/NSHS Volleyball

Girls Volleyball Tryouts: Please note that the district has not set a date for the return to sports for Fall 2020 yet. Typically we would have tryouts on August 24th-25th-26th in the Newton South Fieldhouse.  Opt-in on the form above to get updates on tryout and Fall 2020 season.

All three days of tryouts are mandatory. Missing tryout dates may impact team placement decisions. For further questions, contact head coach Lucas Coffeen.

Impact testing:

In order to be eligible to play a fall sport, impact testing is required for all 2020 Freshman and Juniors. Players must have completed their impact testing before tryouts in order to be able to tryout.

Players must also have an updated physical that is submitted on family ID. Physicals are valid for one year, and any physicals completed in October 2019 will be valid through the 2020 season.

Fall Sports Registration on Family ID, specific times of the tryout schedule, and the link to schedule impact testing will be posted at this page when MIAA releases information: https://www.newton.k12.ma.us/domain/955

Summer Opportunities:

No experience is required to tryout, but for new players who gain some experience before the season or experienced players who want to freshen up their skills, summer clinics are highly recommended opportunities. Although COVID-19 has prompted a lot of clinics and camps to close, here are some clinics that are continuing to run this summer.

Tuesday & Thursday Night Doubles at Oak Hill Fields
Highly recommended for Newton South volleyball players. Starting June 30th at the Oak Hill/Brown fields, every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6-8 pm players can participate in a doubles clinic to strengthen skills and gain playing experience. This program lasts for six weeks, ending August 6th.

Sessions will meet all state and city guidelines for COVID-19 safety during sports camps to ensure the safety of players and coaches.

Learn more about the clinic and sign up here while spaces are available: https://www.bostonuvc.com/beach

Owls Volleyball Sand Doubles Camp
This full-day doubles camp is running at the indoor sand courts at Joust Volleyball in Norwood. All safety guidelines will be followed, including screening and disinfectant stations.

There are a six-week camp and a three-week camp option, but availability is very limited. Learn more and sign up here: https://owlsvolleyballclub.sportngin.com/obvc
