Junior Semi Event and $75 Ticket Deadline Fri, Feb 7th

When? May 16 from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Where?  Newton Marriott Hotel, 2345 Commonwealth Avenue, Auburndale, MA 02466

Cost

  • $75 Wednesday, January 8th – Friday, February 7th
  • $85 Monday, February 10 – Friday, April 3
  • $95 Monday, April 5- Friday, May 1st

Ticket Sales end Friday, May 1st
Tickets will be on sale in the outside of the Photo/Mixed Media rooms starting January 8.  Forms have been available at the House Offices, and you can download the forms here:  Class-of-2021-Junior-Semi-Permission-Slip-Packet

Tickets will be sold per the tiered pricing schedule above. Please make checks
payable to Newton South High School. On the memo line please write Student Name & Class of 2021.

6:30 pm – NSHS Field House

The evening will focus on all of your athletic options at Newton South. You will have a chance to meet representatives from all athletic teams. Below are the important dates for the fall season and information on registration.

August 21, 2020: Pre Season for Football ONLY begins All 3 Levels

 August 24, 2020: Pre Season begins for ALL upper classmen AND incoming freshmen playing fall sports

Please note the first day of school is Tuesday, September 8th!

Online registration for fall sports will open on June 1st and close on August 19th.

Any student playing a fall sport must have had a physical on or after August 20, 2019.

All Freshmen trying out for ANY sport will need to undergo a new ImPACT concussion test.  Dates for testing are TBD and must be completed before tryouts or on the first day of Pre-Season. We will discuss this more at the info meeting.

Winter Season tryouts begin Monday November 30, 2020

Spring Season tryouts begin Monday March 15, 2021

User fees per sport per season (except hockey, football, & alpine ski) = $325 with a cap of $975

Hockey, Football, & Alpine Ski = $425 per season

Super-cap = $1500 per family (high school & middle school athletics & bus fee’s only)

Reminder Grade 10 Parent Night, Wed, Feb 5th at 7PM

On Wednesday, February 5th from 7 to 8PM, parents and guardians of sophomores are invited to attend 10th Grade Parents’ Night in the Seasholes Auditorium.

You will hear information about upcoming sophomore events; course registration; MCAS; standardized testing; and an overview of the transition to junior year, and will have time for Q&A.

NSHS South Stage presents Doubt February 6th, 7th & 8th at 7:30pm

NSHS South Stage presents Doubt, by John Patrick Shanley directed by Poornima Kirby, February 6th, 7th and 8th at 7:30PM in the Lab Theater.

Please join us for our production of Doubt, winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award. In this brilliant and powerful drama, Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of improper relations with one of the male students.

Tickets are on sale online at SouthStage.org and will also be available at the door. Ticketing in advance is recommended.

All parents/guardians of current SENIORS are invited to join us for coffee on Friday, February 7th from 7:45-9AM in the Teacher/Faculty Lounge. 

House Deans, Director and members of the guidance staff  and class advisers will join us to share information about rest of the year and answer questions. Refreshments will be served. Please feel free to come for whatever time fits your schedule.

Parent Volunteers Needed for Student Appreciation on Thur. Feb 13th at 2:15PM

Happy Valentines Day, Happy Winter Break!

The PTSO needs 4 volunteers on Thursday, February 13th from 2:15 to 3:30PM to help distribute carnations to students.   The PTSO provides for surprise student appreciation events throughout the year.  If you are able to help out on this event, please email Lisa Danetz or May Chiu at info@newtonsouthPTSO.org.

Please note the MCAS special schedule for Tuesday, February 11th. 

Freshmen will be starting school at 7:40am.  Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors have late arrival at 10:05AM.

The PTSO will be hosting 2 sessions for an All Grade Parent/Guardian Socials on:

  • Friday, February 28th from 7:45-9AM at Newton South Teacher/Faculty Lounge.
  • Tuesday, March 3rd from 7:30-9:30PM at 111 Lincoln St, Newton MA 02461

Please drop in when it’s convenient for you.  These informal social are an opportunity for our South parent community to meet as parents to ask questions, discuss issues, and get to know each other.  We have no set agenda, other than socializing and checking in with each other on how South Parents/Children are navigating our high school experience at South.  Parents are welcome to come late or leave early to fit their schedules.
