South Students Receive DCL Awards

DCL Awards

The DCL has awarded the Robert M. Chrusz Sportsmanship Award to South students Emily Ball and Will Lavey for their leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment to our community.

Bob Chrusz was a long-time Athletic Director at Newton South. He was a champion for better sportsmanship in our league and a strong leader that left his mark on the state.

Congratulations to both senior athletes!

Donation Needed Faculty Luncheon on Wed, June 23

STAFF LUNCHEON WEDNESDAY, 6/23

The last day of the school year for staff and faculty is Wednesday, 6/23. Please help us show our support of the staff at Newton South by donating to the luncheon. We will be serving a great selection of sandwiches, and are asking families to contribute additional items to round out the menu.

Coffee donations would be greatly appreciated!   In keeping with COVID protocols, we request that all items be commercially purchased and individually wrapped.

Items may be dropped off in the cafeteria any time from 7.45 am-11 am on June 23rd.  Please drop the coffee off by 7.45 am, so the staff members can enjoy a cup of coffee to start their day.  IF YOU’RE UNABLE TO PICK THE COFFEE UP YOURSELF, YOU MAY USE DOORDASH OR ANOTHER SIMILAR DELIVERY SERVICE.  We’re happy to accept delivered donations!

Seniors Graduation Photos

Spring Sports Awards

The Spring sports awards presentation took place Wednesday, June 16 at 8 am under the big white tent. Awardees and their families were present to celebrate their distinctions.

Receiving the Award of Excellence for sportsmanship were:

South Teams Compete in MIAA Sectional Tournaments

Several of South’s varsity teams are participating in the MIAA sectional tournaments this weekend.

Friday, June 18:

The baseball team is traveled to Lexington -4 pm

The softball team traveled to Arlington-4:30 PM

Boys Tennis played at St. John Prep in Danvers-3 PM

Boys and Girls Track: first half of sectionals at Higham High School. The teams will finish the competition on Sunday, June 20, with the Girls team starting at 3 PM and the Boys team at 5 PM.

Monday, June 21

Unified Track will host their last meet of the season in lieu of sectionals at 10:30 AM.

Boys volleyball will host Norwood at 5 PM. Four fans per player wearing a face mask will be allowed to enter the Field House.

To help support South’s athletic programs and build school spirit, the Booster Club is exploring new fundraising and event opportunities, including a fall kick-off event. Spring Sports Awards Ceremony – June 16

The Spring sports awards presentation will take place Wednesday, June 16 at 8 am under the big white tent at South. Students receiving awards and their families are invited to attend.

Fall 2021 Sports Registration, Requirements and Try-out Schedule

Registration: Fall sports registration will open Thursday, July 1. You can find the FamilyID link on the Athletics page website.

ImPact Concussion Testing: Students starting 9th grade, Junior year or who are new to NSHS Athletics must complete the ImPact Concussion Test before starting sports in August. Information about the test is included in the registration form.

Physical Forms: Please note that students must have a physical on file dated no earlier than August 19, 2020 in order to try out.

First day for tryouts are as follows:

Football: August 20

Cheer, Field Hockey, Golf, Soccer, Girls Volleyball: August 23

Dance: August 24

Unified Basketball: September 13

Try-out schedule will be posted online after July 1st

South Teams Move to DCL, State Competitions

Several of South’s Spring teams move on to post-season play this week:

The Unified Track and Field team is participating in the State Sectional this season. The meet will take place Monday, June 14 at 3 pm at Walpole High School.

Boys and Girls Track teams are competing at the DCL championship today, Saturday, June 12. The meet will take place at Weston High school and will start at 2 pm. Both teams are participating in the state Sectional next weekend at Hingham High School.

Baseball and Softball are competing in the DCL cup this weekend.

The Boys Volleyball team will host the semifinal of the DCL cup on Monday, June 14.

MIAA Sectional seedings for Tennis, Baseball, Softball and Volleyball will take place on Wednesday, June 16 with games starting on June 18.
