Newton South HOME games protocol – Spring 2021.

Home Games; Fitted masks required for all participants. NO GAITERS ALLOWED.

Pre-game:

-NSHS staff member or coach greets visiting team – directs them to the appropriate field as needed

-Visiting team head coach is responsible for COVID-19 screening all of their team members and other coaches who will be in attendance.

Spring Sports Registration is OPEN

Spring sports registration on FamilyID is OPEN. All students participating are required to have a current physical on file. Please notice that the state requires in-person physicals for sports activities. Telehealth appointments are not acceptable. The Covid coach for the Spring season is Mr. Patrick Jordan Quern. Please see the preliminary protocol that our

coaches will follow for Spring 2021:

Pre-Practice;

-NSHS coaches will ask each player to fill out the COVID symptom form by 1 PM.

-Any student answering yes to any question will be kept out of practice. The coach will contact Covid coach immediately and text AD.

-COVID coach talks to the student, contacts their family and sends the student home. He will also contact the AD and school nurse with the findings.

-Sharing food or drink is not allowed at this time (no cakes, cupcakes, pizza, fruits, seeds, etc)

Post Practice

-Equipment that is shared by the team has to be cleaned (use spray bottles and paper towels set for that purpose) before it is put away. That includes cones and extra balls. To be done by the coach that uses it.

-Students have to take their equipment home and clean it before their next practice.

-Please refer to general MIAA guidelines for best practices.

Away Games

Pre-game:

-Each team head coach is responsible for COVID-19 screening of all their team members before 1 PM.

-If students answer yes to any screening question, the student can not travel to the visiting school.

-Covid coach is contacted, the family is contacted, the head coach is contacted.

Boys Volleyball

Boys volleyball this Spring! Athletes wanted!!

Indoor Track

Track teams will host CRL on Monday, April 12 at 4:45 PM. This meet will close the Fall 2 Track season. The coaches will host skill clinics during the week for interested students. Please contact the coaches directly for information:

Unified Basketball

The Unified Basketball team defeated Waltham 49 to 39 on Senior Day! The team is undefeated and will play their last game of the season on Tuesday, April 13 at Newton North. The game will be streamed and starts at 4:30 PM.

DCL Cheer and Dance Competition

The Cheerleading and Dance teams are traveling to Waltham on Saturday, April 10 to participate in the first-ever outdoor DCL championship. The competition starts at 1 PM. DCL credential identifications are required. Only two spectators per family are allowed to enter at the time of team performance. Once the team finished all fans are required to leave the school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Cheer: Warm-up time 2:15 PM-Perform: 2:30 PM

Dance: Warm-up time: 2:45 PM Performance 3 PM.

Football games

Our football team is playing at Concord Carlisle tonight. DCL spectators’ limitations are 2 people per player. DCL credential lanyards have to be presented to enter the stadium.

Our Subvarsity team will host Concord Carlisle on Saturday morning at 10 AM.

The teams will end their season next weekend against Weston. JV will travel to Weston on Thursday, April 15. The game starts at 4:45 PM.

The varsity team is hosting Weston on Friday, April 16. Kickoff is at 5:30 PM

Senior Day at the Volleyball court

The volleyball team will honor the seniors at their game vs Concord Carlisle tonight, Friday, April 9. This group of seniors went through many transitions during their time together still created a supportive and resilient team. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to NS volleyball!

Our senior players are Hannah Balcanoff, Amy Huang, Sabrina Ishanyan, Abigail Matthews, Madeline Xerras, and Maggie Xu.

The varsity team is waiting for tonight’s league results to know about their Monday opponent. Information about the site and times will be posted on our athletic page and on the sports calendar.

Spring Sports Free Skills clinics

Starting Monday, April 12 sports specific Free Skill Clinics for Baseball, Softball, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Boys and Girls Tennis will be offered. These clinics are open to all students that want to participate in the Spring season and capped to 30 players per day. Each sport can host up to 4 clinics between April 12 and April 23. Participating students have to register using Spring Registration on FamilyID, follow all Covid protocols, and use the QR code for checking symptoms by 1 PM on the day of the clinic. The QR Codes will be sent by the coach prior to April 12. The workouts will be supervised. Captains’ practices are not encouraged at this time due to current protocols.
