Attendees at games

The DCL protocols for entering venues require that only one member of the family of each player attends the games in order to keep the number of attendees consistent with the number of people allowed to congregate at this time. The league is aware that this number may change in different communities in the future and we will communicate any changes as they become effective. Identification badges had been distributed and you have to wear them in order to come into all member schools’ events. We appreciate your collaboration.

The games had started!

This week was the kick off of the playing season. Our athletes and coaches were eager and happy to be able to compete. We want to thank our NS community for the support of the health measures and their presence at the playing fields.

Our Golf team opened their season on Tuesday by traveling to Acton Boxboro. Coach Flynn reports “The team split with AB this past week. The Lions won the home match 88-77, and lost a close one away 87-80 on Tuesday. The team was led by four-year varsity member and senior captain Maddy Small who had 21 and 16 points in her matches.”

Our boys and girls Soccer teams and the Field Hockey squad also suited against Acton Boxboro this week with their series to be completed tomorrow. We will host Girls Soccer with varsity starting at 3 PM and JV A at 11 Am. AB doesn’t have a third team this year.

Opening their season on Saturday will be the Boys and Girls XC teams. The races will take place at Cold Springs in the afternoon. Please notice that parking is limited in the area and the number of attendees is still one person per runner competing.

Sign up for PTSO Mentoring/Family Connection Program

The PTSO is launching our Mentoring/Family Connection Program for Students and Families to help build new connections in our school community.

A Student Mentor should be a Junior or Senior at South who is willing to be a resource and can offer their support, knowledge and skills to help a student Buddy, who is new to South, a Freshman or Sophomore.   A Mentor Family would be willing to be a resource to support  1 or 2 families who are new to South, to Newton, to the US.

This is not a tutoring program.  It is a community building program to help form new connections.  There’s no structure to the connection – whatever works for the Mentor & Buddy.  Our South Community is vast and supportive. Please sign up by Friday, October 9th if you are interested in being a Mentor or Buddy.  After the sign up period, our coordinators will followup with an email to both Mentor/Buddy so they can connect.  We hope this program will help students find new connections and an opportunity for families to have local resources to navigate South and Newton.
