Congratulations to all the student artists at Newton South High School. Beautiful, creative, and inspiring. A picture is worth a thousand words!
Close out this difficult year with a day of joy, celebration, and rejuvenation at NSHS annual Tertulia Art Showcase on TUESDAY, JUNE 1st, during F, G, and community blocks. Celebrate arts, performance, music, and dance in the LIBRARY COURTYARD.
Each block will also be live-streamed for teachers to show in their classes if they cannot attend in person. E-Block, the first block on Tuesday, will include a short selection of pre-recorded remote performances that teachers can also stream in their classes.
Monday, 6/21: The dismissal time and bus pickup for 6/21 for those students that need to come to South for makeup work/support from teachers has been confirmed as 11:30am. Here is more information on the purpose and schedule of the day:
Here is a link to the end of the year Block Schedule (UPDATED 5/28)
Note the CHANGE to the special schedule for graduation on 6/10 due to bus dismissal times that needed to be adjusted to meet district needs:
With an early dismissal on 12:15 and the ceremonies at the same time as they are currently scheduled on 6/10
NSHS will make the call if we have to move to the rain date as early as possible as we are aware of the disruption that schedule changes cause to students and families.
A few reminder items to note:
There are no traditional final exams this year in June that count towards a final grade. Instead, classes will have new content being taught through June 11th with the week of 6/14 FULL SCHOOL DAYS for course review and wrap up. Teachers will share out more specifically what the last days will look like as we get closer to the end of the school year.
The ninth grade science MCAS (paper based) special schedules are slated for Thursday, June 3rd and Friday, June 4th: June MCAS. More information about the test, including room assignments, etc., will be shared with ninth grade families by MCAS coordinator, Faye Cassell: cassellf@newton.k12.ma.us
A reminder that each member of the Class of 2021 needs to fill out this graduation registration/survey form, even if you are not planning to attend graduation. PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORM BY THE END OF THE DAY THIS FRIDAY, MAY 28TH. (Reminder: you can go back and edit the form AFTER 5/28 but we need every senior to fill out as much as you know for now).
Congratulate your graduate in South’s only print newspaper!
Our special section devoted to the Class of 2021 will be distributed to seniors
and their families at graduation on June 10. We would like to include your tribute to your child’s graduation from Newton South. Click here for instructions.
Here is an updated version of the May/June events calendar (events will be added as confirmed…and added to the Newton South webpage calendar, as well): May/June Calendar

It’s a quick process to enroll:
Pool Testing Schedule for the week of May 24th:
As a way to incentivize participation in the pool testing program, we have purchased Dunkin’ gift cards that we have then placed into random test kits. When students come to submit a test and pick up another test for the following week, they may be among the lucky winners who pick up a kit that contains a gift card. Another reason to SIGN UP FOR TESTING IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY!
