Global Education Leadership Fund (GELF).

Dear Newton Families,

The Jennifer Price Global Education Leadership Fund began over 10 years ago to ensure global travel was open to any student at Newton North and Newton South. As you may know, one of the many special parts of these two high schools are our exchange and global trips–from France to Spain, Mexico to Argentina, Ghana and Australia.

A lot has happened in the past 18 months for GELF. We are now our own 501(c)3! We are grateful for the years of support from our friends at Newton Schools Foundation, but we felt like it was time to go on our own. We are grateful for our partnership with Newton Schools Foundation and excited to be moving into the future as an established 501(c)3.

Additionally, long time GELF director Samantha Mandel moved into her new role at Newton Community Education and we have now welcomed NNHS Chinese teacher Star Lew as Global Education Developer to assist the Board in managing GELF. Star’s international knowledge and understanding of the Newton high schools is invaluable. Additionally, Star is the Exchange Program Specialist of the Newton-Beijing Jingshan Exchange Program! Finally, our board has been setting our vision for the GELF’s future. That vision includes supporting more students as they have transformative experiences with our global programs.

When our students are able to travel again, we know there will be a surge in demand. In 2018-19, 32 students received $32,994 in scholarships and in 2019-20 we would have awarded 80 students with the total amount of $78,941, had the pandemic not halted some of our trips. We need to be ready for our first wave of student travelers which hopefully will be sooner than later.

With that we need your support! Please consider a year-end fully tax-deductible donation to The Jennifer Price Global Education Leadership Fund so that we may continue to offer life-changing travel experiences for all of Newton’s high school students.

For donations by credit card or PayPal:

For donations by check, payee is GELF. Please send to: GELF c/o NNHS, 457 Walnut Street, Newton, MA 02460.

THANK YOU!
