2nd Request to complete your 2021 Graduation Survey in Naviance

Hi Seniors!!

Thank you to more than 200 of you who completed the 2021 Graduation Survey in Naviance last week!

For those who have yet to do so, please know that it a required task toward graduation. In fact, you won’t be able to get your cap & gown unless you have it completed.

Each of you has your own unique plan for the next step after high school. Knowing your plan assists us in advising future students. So whether you are attending college or not, all seniors must complete the 2021 Graduation Survey in their Naviance portal. If you do not remember your login, please contact Ms. Sabet via email.

College-bound seniors, completing this survey is the way to order your final transcript to be sent before July 1st to your attending college. We will only send your final transcript to one college.  The only exception is for students removed and attending a college from a waitlist. Please notify Ms. Sabet if you are offered admission from a waitlist after completing your survey.

To access the survey:  Login to Naviance>Click the tab (top right corner) About Me> My Surveys>Surveys Not Started>2021 Graduation Survey.  Please read all questions carefully. We advise you to complete the survey sooner than later and fill out all areas thoroughly. Yes, we want decisions from all the schools where you applied.

If you are unsure about your plans after high school, please contact us. We are happy to assist you in considering your plans and options.

Thank you,

Ms. Sabet & your School Counselors

Spring Season is in Full Swing!

Our Spring teams hosted their first week of games since the 2019 season! It is great to see the students competing and safely enjoying the games they love. Our athletes and coaches are doing a great job following the necessary steps to keep everyone playing in a safe manner.

Covid Policies:

As you may be aware the state has lifted some restrictions for the general public. Yet the MIAA has not changed the requirements to participate in sports. Masks are required to be worn by athletes, coaches, officials and spectators for all sports and the distancing is still six feet.

We are happy we are able to host spectators at all games now, though including volleyball. For volleyball, two fans per player are welcome to attend and must have their assigned lanyards. We are also streaming the action for family members to enjoy!  Please note that member schools may not be streaming games this season.

Food and drinks:

In addition to masks, food and drinks are not to be shared by anyone. I know that cupcakes after games are a cherished tradition however we need to suspend them at this time. This applies to no food or drinks on busses (not only a Covid protocol but also a state regulation on school buses related to concerns for allergic reactions that lead to medical emergencies.

Mandatory Covid Testing for Athletes:

The School Committee has mandated pool testing for all athletes and extracurricular participates. The requirement started two weeks ago. We are currently at 50% participation. It is very important that athletes complete their weekly tests to make sure that teams can keep participating and that no one will have to sit out a week for non-compliance. The next test days are Monday, May 17 from 10:45 to 1 PM and Tuesday, May 18 from 3;30 to 4:30 PM.

Thank you for your understanding.

Yearbooks
For specific yearbook questions, please contact English Department head, Brian Baron: baronb@newton.k12.ma.us

FAQ’s:

  • How should students pick up the yearbook they ordered?

In-person seniors: Go to the faculty dining room (same room they use to drop off Covid pool tests) during any lunch period Monday, May 17, through Friday, May 21. Use the entrance from the hallway.

Remote students (or in-person students who can’t make it on Monday): Drive up to the Wheeler entrance between 6 and 7:30 pm on Monday, May 17, or between 12 and 1:30 pm on Saturday, May 22 and Mr. Baron will have your yearbook there.

  • I didn’t order a book but I want one…

Just bring $100 cash or a check made out to Newton South High School to any yearbook pickup time.

  • What about the spring supplement?

The yearbook staff is hard at work on additional coverage of spring events. Everyone who ordered a book will get a copy of this supplement later in the summer — graduating seniors will have the supplement mailed to their houses, and everyone else will get it in school in the first days of school.

Chromebooks
All NPS Chromebooks AND chargers that have been checked out to Seniors need to be returned. If any Senior has their own device and is NOT using their NPS-issued Chromebook, please return it to the main office window (in the front lobby) anytime starting Monday, May 17th and continuing each school day from 8:00am to 3:00pm right up until May 27th.

For students that still need to use their NPS Chromebook until the last day on May 28th, there will be a specific collection schedule for 5/28 that will be shared out at a later date.

Finally, if you have misplaced or damaged your Chromebook charger, here is a link to instructions on ordering a new one. A reminder that we do need NPS issued Chromebooks and chargers returned in good condition. Thanks for your cooperation.
