Senior Events – Prom & SouthFest Update

The South Administration team will soon be announcing a date for the Senior Prom.  SouthFest will follow immediately after the Prom on the same day.  In the meantime, planning has begun and many thanks to those who participated in the PTSO brainstorming session on March 2, 2021.  The next meeting will be scheduled later this month as soon as the event date is confirmed from the South Administration.

Dec 31 Deadline Diploma Name Verification Inbox

Hello, Senior Class!

Many of you may have seen my name on emails regarding your transcripts and Naviance.  I hope your plans for after graduation are falling into place!

This time, I am emailing you about pre-graduation business.  I am the one who sends the student information to the printer for your diploma.  I usually spend December and January confirming the spelling of every senior’s name.  That is proving to be tricky this year, due to the pandemic, so, here is this year’s plan.

Please:

  1. Go on ASPEN and confirm the spelling of your first, middle and last names; and
  2. Complete this Google Form to confirm the spelling of your full name.

Confirmations are due no later than December 31, 2020All change requests will be confirmed via email to the student, and to the student’s parent/guardian.  Thank you for completing this form as soon as possible.  The earlier we can submit names to the printer, the more likely we will be to get our diplomas on time.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Marguerite Monahan, Registrar

Senior Outdoor Cooperative

Dear Newton South Senior Parents/Guardians,

PTSO wanted to let you know of a new program created by our Newton South teachers to support our Seniors.

Newton South Teachers Eliza Tyack, Alan Reinstein and Dave Weintraub have organized a new program called the Senior Outdoor Cooperative, which aims to bring together Newton South faculty and seniors outdoors in ways that are safely socially distanced and yet still provide opportunities for meaningful connection, discovery, and togetherness during a remote school year.  About 200 hundred seniors have signed up to participate at some point.

As of Sunday, November 8th, the Cooperative has led the first batch of five expeditions ranging from affinity group meet-ups at Chestnut Hill Reservoir to ambitious hikes to Mt. Monadnock hike with about twenty other seniors.
